Seniors Round 12 Wrap Up by Tony Dosen, HHH-FM League Caller/ Sports Director
Ron Massey Cup
The Asquith Magpies kept within striking distance of the Ron Massey Cup top four with a convincing 36-10 win over the Western Suburbs in the all-Magpies “battle of the birds” at Storey Park.
Asquith blitzed Wests early with tries from Jackson Williams, Kurt Horton and Will Solway to lead 16-0 after 10 minutes.
Asquith consolidated their lead later in the first half with Horton completing his double and Riley Travers scoring to give Pat Wiesner’s men a commanding 24-0 half time lead.
Travers also earned a double in the second half, with more tries from Jake Maizen and speedster Alex Nicholls-O’Neill completing Asquith’s handsome victory.
Sydney Shield
Earlier in the day, a mid-game comeback was not enough for Asquith when it went down to the classy East Campbelltown Eagles 40-20 in its Sydney Shield match.
After being down 22-0 after 20 minutes, Asquith stormed back thanks to a hat trick from Caleb Campbell and a try from Vinny Ngaro but East Campbelltown secured the win in the late stages.
