MAGPIES COMPLETE WINNING DOUBLE

The Asquith Magpies showed they will be a force this season by completing a winning double in both their Ron Massey Cup and Sydney Shield matches last Saturday.

The Magpies made it back to back wins in the Massey Cup with a convincing 32-12 win over the Glebe-Burwood Wolves at Leichhardt Oval.

Asquith got off to a brilliant start when winger Nick O’Meley opened the scoring in just the third minute.

Backrower Jackson Williams, livewire fullback Honeti Tuha and interchange player Justin Lemalu scored further first half tries to give the Magpies a commanding 20-6 lead at half time.

The Magpies then steadied in a tighter second half before half Blake Goodman and prop Atonio Pelesasa scored tries in the closing 12 minutes to make sure of the victory.

Meanwhile, a hat trick of tries from flying winger Jale Seninawanawa led the Magpies to their first Sydney Shield win for the year with a 30-20 victory over a gallant Sydney University outfit at Norford Park, Sefton last Saturday.

Both sides went try for try for the first half with prop AwishkarGnyawali getting Asquith;s first try in the 13th minute, before Seninawanawa scored his first two tries to ensure that scores were locked at 16-all at the break.

Half Braden Batiste and backrower Luke Hodge scored early second half tries to give the Magpies the lead before University came back again to set up a grandstand finish,at 26-20 with 20 minutes left.

Seninawanawa then completed his hat trick with 15 minutes left to seal Asquith’s cross town double across both competitions.
